Do you know where your children are?

My children don't watch a lot of television. Especially Dimitry - he just does not sit still long enough! He is too busy running around causing mass chaos wherever he goes. It's really cute, actually. But I also wouldn't mind if he sat through one 20 minutes show so I can get some work done around the house, you know?

Christos does have a few shows that I would say are his favourites, or have been at some point.

He went through a Bob the Builder phase a couple years ago. He likes Toopy and Binoo. He loves Mighty Machines and How It's Made on Discovery, and classic Bugs Bunny. He used to watch Hi-5, which I also totally loved, because everyone was so cute on that show. And the songs are totally fun to sing along to. Christos also really enjoys Max and Ruby.

I'm glad that none of these shows bother me too much. I'm thankful he doesn't like Dora, because her voice alone is enough to drive me insane. Like, seriously. Thank God I have boys.

Now, let's talk about Max and Ruby.

A harmless little show about two little bunnies. But... my gosh, Ruby is the most annoying older sister ever! Poor Max!

Also? Where are their parents? This totally bugs me. Ruby is only (I think) 7 years old, and she's totally responsible for Max. All the time. She even takes him shopping to the mall alone, with no adult supervision. And she takes him on a city bus to go visit her friend. She is only 7! And Max is only 3! (I think. Although he hardly speaks, so maybe he's closer to 2?) She feeds him, plays with him, bathes him, and helps put him to sleep. I'm all for older sister/older brother helping out and playing with their younger siblings, but come on! What are their parents doing? Who cooks their dinner? I have seen their grandmother on occasion, but still... talk about lazy parents!

Does this not drive you insane, too? Or is it just me, reading way too much into a harmless children's show?

And let's get back to poor Max. His sister is so mean to him sometimes!

And the theme song?

Max and Ruby... Ruby and Max... Max and Ruby... Ruby and Max... Max and Ruby... Ruby and her little brother Max.

Wow.

But still, cute show. I don't hate it. It's just... well, annoying, don't you think?

This post was inspired by McMommy's recent post on annoying TV characters! Thanks, McMommy!

My 22mo has a brand new obsession with Dora, and I love it! He will actually sit still and watch her long enough for me to make dinner, or clean up or whatever! My older ones were big Wiggles fans which I liked because they were enjoyable to me too. I say anything that can give you a bit of peace is golden!

Oooh, it's a tie in my mind who is worse - Dora or Ruby. At least there is a bit of learning that happens on Dora. We put our tv in the basement months ago and now my daughter rarely asks to watch anything. She asks for more stories but I think they are much easier on *my* head.

YES THE THEME SONG!!! Sooooooo annoying!! Way to put alot of creative thought into THAT song, right??

Oh, I do hate it...I think it's just awful. "Let's save the wrapping paper for thank you cards" - Ruby. No, Ruby, find your parents. How about that? And keep an eye on your brother at the mall!
As far as most annoying? Hmmm...Ruby, might be it. It used to be Caillou, but he actually has really good manners, and I think it rubbed off on my daughter!

My friends and I have been wondering the same thing! I completely agree too, she is a bossy little thing who most of the time just makes the situation worse! Poor Max knows what he is doing..if only she would listen! LOL!

My 3 yr old's favorite is "Yo Gabba Gabba". It's the only childrens show he will sit down and watch everyday. He sings and dances to it and talks to the T.V. when they ask a question. Apparently it's "the" show to guest spot on too, so they have some pretty cool stars on there! Maybe I should blog about that? Good idea!!!

Max & Ruby makes my skin crawl. The opening credits is enough to make my ears bleed. BUT, my daughter adores it - she loves Max. She thinks he's cute - and it gives me 20 minutes of peace, time to do the dinner dishes and throw in a load of laundry. But, it still makes my skin crawl and makes me look for hot pokers to shove in my eyes.

Oh.my. I feel the exact same way about this show and my kids like it. It is terrible and I'm always asking where are the parents. Ruby cooks and everything. Drives me crazy, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

LOL. I'm glad Jake wasn't crazy about a lot of kids shows. He was nuts about How it's Made, Martha Stewart and Home Again (Bob Villa).

Right now he's watching Food Network Canada.

But for the real 'kid' shows he really liked Franklin.

Max and Ruby drives me nuts. And my M loves it :(

I hate all the nagging Ruby does. JUST LET MAX PLAY ALREADY!

It's so funny you wrote about this, because we JUST got home from vacation w/ my 2.5 y.o. niece who watches Max & Ruby all the time. My dad said the same thing about her being a bad example of a big sister -- which didn't go over too well w/ my SIL who is currently expecting her 2nd! Ruby is annoying, but even more annoying is how my 3 y.o. imitates Max's baby talk. After he watches it, he only speaks in 1-word sentences. Argh!!

I know! I can't stand Max and Ruby. Ruby is SO bossy, I wish someone would slap her! Unfortunately for me, Matthew likes Dora. Argh. "D D D D D Dora D D D D D Dora" And that awful song "back pack back pack." What genius thought that up?

Luckily, Sophie hasn't *found* Max and Ruby yet. And I don't think she will, either. For my sanity.

OMG! I had never seen that before and Misa Misa one day saw a commercial for it and said happily, "Max and Ruby!" I thought maybe Daddy watched it with him and put it on and it is A.W.F.U.L!

Almost all of those shows annoy me!!! Especially yo gabba gabba.

I really only like Backyardigans...but that may be because I feel like i'm watching a musical!

They're also talking rabbits...super annoying. ;)

You hit the nail on the head! And yes that theme song is too much...catchy though right?? Kat and Loulou...Loulou and Kat...we could really have something special here.

Yes, the show drives me crazy but it's like crack for kids - although Son No. 1 has questioned the lack of parents a few times. If you wanna go into bad t.v. land, watch a couple of episodes of in the night garden - am pretty sure the creators were doing acid.

We don't have a T.V. Sorry.

I know that facebook has a group called "Where are Max & Ruby's Parents?". I thought that was kinda funny.

Michael loves Max & Ruby. (and TV in general - have to keep an eye on that) But, yes, every time we watch it I just want to scream "Where are their parents?!!" There's grandma who comes to visit from time to time and lots of aunts and uncles mentioned when they open b'day gifts. But absolutely no mention ever of parents.

And Miss BossyBoss drives me nuts. Ah well.

Anyone got the number to cartoon children's aid?

I think that a lot of people are a bit perplexed by Max & Ruby. I once said "I think there is a serious breakdown in parental supervision at Max & Ruby's house..." And I died laughing when I read another post like this titled, "Max and Ruby: Someone Call Child Protective Services."

The other thing that I find disturbing about this show is the human dolls that Ruby has. What does that mean? Are they living in a parallel universe where the darwinian leap was made by bunnies? Are the humans in the zoo? Is it like a Planet of the Apes kind of deal? This is the kind of thing that keeps me up at night...

Oh my goodness, Kate! Good point... creepy... and weird! Add that to the list of things that annoy me about Max and Ruby!

I am so with you on this! Were are they????

lol! hubby and i talk about this ALL the time....where are the parents :) i agree, ruby is annoying. overall it's a good show and the kiddies are entertained by it which is most important

I can't stand Max and Ruby! One more good reason to have gotten ride of cable. I don't have to come across that. I think it's a terrible show and bad role modle for young girls. The only good thing is that Max always out smarts her. Thank goodness!

I'll watch it just to catch a glimpse of Roger - the cute neighborhood bunny!

hahahaha I wondered that about Max and Ruby too! now that my guy turned 5 he is into "more mature " shows now like SpongeBob(not)and Star Wars clone Wars (he was influenced to watch these shows by other 5 and 6 year old boys at his pre-school by the way- all the rage) which makes his daddy SUPER happy!

I know some of us were tweeting about this one day, how they seem to have no parents. It is a strange concept for a show to me and I'm not even sure what the kids really get out of it, are you? We don't watch it much around here because although mostly harmless I just don't really "get it" or what the kids should be getting out of it, you know?
