Top 5 reasons to be stressed about BlogHer

Yup, it's only March. BlogHer is 5 months away. But seriously, guys? Time goes by so quicky that in the blink of an eye, it will be the last week of July and we'll all be completely freaking out because we haven't even figured out how many pairs of shoes to bring with us - or how much room to leave in our suitcase for all the shopping we'll do on Fifth Avenue. Wait - we will have time to shop, right? Eek!

Top 5 reasons I'm stressed out about BlogHer, in no particular order, although hair does come first:

1. My hair. I will be thinking about my hair for the next 5 months. Because I don't know if I should keep it totally straight. Or with a bit of a wave.

Like this?

Or this?

I know this shouldn't be an issue at all, but, well, it is, okay? Hair can be very stressful! It's a big deal! And it can't be both. It has to be one way or the other. (I can totally hear Maria snickering right now...)

2. I want to meet so, so many fabulous bloggers. I won't even bother naming all the people I want to meet, just know it's you and you and you. And you, too! And of course, you. In the 3 days that I'll be in NYC - will I get the chance to meet everyone I am dying to meet - to talk to, learn with, and party with all the fabulous writers I've come to know over these last few years online? I hope so. Look for me!

3. Drunken tweets. Enough said.

4. Will I be able to keep up with her while shoe shopping at Saks?

5. What if I'm let down in any way? For instance, what if someone I admire in the blogosphere isn't all that nice in person? That would really suck. I hope everyone is NICE and FRIENDLY to eachother. No Hills-type drama, okay? We're all bloggers. I don't care if you review cars or socks, or how many comments you get per post. All that counts is you're a good writer, an honest writer, and we're all there for the same thing! So people - put on a happy face and no snobbery! Because if you're mean, I will blog about it.

That's it. For now. I'm sure other stresses will come up sooner or later, like my fear of leaving my children for three days, and what to pack - oh, that's a whole other story, and I'm sure a blog post on that topic will be forthcoming!

What about you - past BlogHer attendees - what stressed you out? Did anything upset you while you were at BlogHer? Newbies - what are you stressed about?

I worry about #5, too. There were a bunch of posts last year that have me a bit worried, but hopefully not. There are just so many people to meet and I'm looking forward to the workshops.
I think it will be great. And I'm sure your hair will look just lovely, no matter what you decide ;-)

I think the thing that stressed me out the most last year was what to wear. And that will likely be my issue this year, as well. I guess I worried that no one I talked to would know me, even those people that I read/read me regularly. but that wound up not being a problem. Even some of the "big" bloggers that I talked to knew who I was. Or at least they pretended to. :)

You'll have a great time! Can't wait to meet you!

As a newbie to BlogHer... I'm already stressed that I won't know many people. Sure, I'm as outgoing as the rest of them, but I'm new to Twitter and due to my internet fluctuations, I'm not online as much as I'd like!

Of course there's the hair issue... the what to wear issue ... and the stresses of leaving my kids 2500 miles away issue.

But I'm excited. Very, very excited.

And scared. Don't forget scared.

BeachMama said...

If I get to go, first I will be stressed about leaving my kids. When I get over that I will worry about what to wear, gotta look good in NYC.

Last year I stressed about my wardrobe. But, once I arrived I realized that my wardrobe didn't matter in the least to me or anyone - these are the most nonjudgemental women you'll ever have the fun of knowing!!!

I'm stressed that it will be SO BIG that I won't get to meet the peeps I want to - like you! 3,000 attendees is a lot of folks, so I hope to get out of it everything I am expecting. :)

Sigh....I just wish I could GO LOL...so amazing to have the chance to meet all these great people in person....& how can a wknd in NYC NOT be fun?? For the record, I adore your hair with the wave!! And the rest of us want to smack you for stressing over hair that is far prettier than our own on your worst hair day hahahahaha!!

:-D

my biggest stress was what to pack. I was tying blogher in with a vacation so I wasn't going to see my house or a washer for a week. It worked out okay and I had fun and didn't wear some things I thought I would. The only thing I would recommend is comfy shoes.

I am most worried about finding the people I know - like you - so I can meet you! I am also nervous about getting all my bloggy crap together before then - like a big change thats coming in my blog design. Want my blog looking sparkly if I am out there basically advertising it! I am trying to decide if I should do business cards or something more creative....gosh see how much to decide...

I should probably think about my wardrobe too!

p.s. I vote wavy hair - so pretty!
p.p.s. i will get drunk and tweet with you anytime!

After attending a tweet up in Vancouver over the weekend, I'd be freaked out. Not because people weren't lovely and amazing, but that I'd be overwhelmed. Just the few I met was overwhelming, but to meet THAT many people I'd likely become incredibly shy.

Plus I'm not a fashionista, and would probably feel sort of out of place.

PS...I love your hair wavy. :)

Crap! i'm now worried because I hadn't been worrying! I guess it's lucky I'm local so I can just run home if I'm totally dressed wrong! I do worry about #5 though... what if I let OTHER people down? I don't want anyone to have an expectation of me and then meet me and say, "THAT'S Drama for Mama? I had her pegged ALL wrong!"

I do hope to meet you though!

As for the hair - you are stunning either way ... strike that off your list of worries! You could do straight one day and wavy the next!

I'm not going to BlogHer but will live vicariously through all of my bloggy/twitter friends - you are going to have a BLAST!

And as you know, I just managed to spend a whole 6 days away from my little angel and I lived to tell about it (AND have an AMAZING time!). You know how much I struggled. Of course I missed her tons, and literally sprinted through the airport the second we got off the plane (sorry to anyone I knocked over but I was on a mission!), and promptly burst into tears as I squeezed her in my arms and smothered her with kisses . . . BUT, I firmly believe mommies need a break sometimes in order to be the best mommies we can be. You are going to have a FABULOUS time. Live it up girlfriend!

Jay said...

Wow, we are so different. Hair wouldn't even cross my mind.

victoria winters said...

Girl, you're hair looks fab either way, so take THAT one off your stress list!

This will be my first BlogHer, so I'm stressed about finding new buddies.

And getting embarrassingly drunk at one of the cocktail parties!

Great post! I think you look incredible with both styles of hair, you are beautiful (I would kill) for hair like yours. But personally I love the straight look, easier to manage and very sleek.

I wish I was going, I live in Canada and as a blogger never get to any of these events. Maybe one day, but I'm sure I can belong somewhere thanks to Twitter and you guys posting on it.

Have a blast!

Kate Coveny Hood said...

I think you love gorgeous in both styles - but I'm going to suggest wavy. NYC in August in HUMID - and it might be easier to maintain waves the pin straight locks.

This will be my first year - and I'm not sure what worries me... Maybe just the things that occur outside of conference hours. I have no fear of meeting people and having a great time at a BlogHer party - but what about going out to dinner, etc. I have certain other bloggers whom I'd want to spend time with - BUT am I on their short list too? The fact that this has occurred to me makes me realize that I'm going to have to take the same attitude I had in high school: just have fun wherever I land. If I don't end up with some - I'll surely be having the time of my life with others.

Listen - I don't get out much - so I really need to make the most of this!

Is there really going to be time for shopping?? If so - I'm headed to SOHO. But I'm not going to prioritize that since I live so close to NY and it's not that hard for me to plan a weekend trip up there.

I'm so looking forward to having the best bloggers in my home town. Glad you are planning to shop. I'm thinking of hosting a little blogging event on Thursday--hope you can make it.

I am stressed about BlogHer too. On all counts except the hair. My hair is totally uninteresting. Though now I might stress that it should be interesting :P

I am wondering...when do you know you are ready for a blogger conference? Do you have to have a group of blog friends scattered around the country that decides to meet there...how many woman go it alone and just hope to connect?

Elaine A. said...

First of all your hair looks fabulous both ways, so good luck with that one. ;)

Second, you MAY find that not everyone is who you hoped or thought they'd be (it happened to me w/ one particular blogger last year). BUT you will also meet some FABULOUS bloggers that you didn't even know existed. And that part is so cool!

Give Pauline a hug from me. SHE actually recognized me last year and she is so wonderful! Have fun shopping (if you find the time!) :)

rheanne said...

Love that you seem to stress about hair as much as I do, and for the same reasons! My vote if for the wavy hair. It looks fantastic and (in my opinion) works with the fun, bouncy, free-spirit kind of personality that comes across in your blog.

Chrissy MacCEO said...

First of all - your hair is stunning either way! I am totally jealous that you can even get yours to get wavy like that!

But, mainly, I am SO JEALOUS that you are going to BlogHer. I TOTALLY WANT TO GO but I don't have anyone in my area that's going so noone to room with. I am a bit of a nervous annie & so I'd liek to know who I am rooming with, who I'll eat with, etc. in case I start to feel anxious out of my comfort zone...!!!

Marinka said...

I'm so excited about BlogHer in NYC. I had a great time last year. And I definitely want to be there for the shoe-off shopping spree at Saks with you and Pauline.

btw, when we meet, please don't look me in the eye. Or address me directly. Thanks in advance!

OHmommy said...

Don't worry so much. Really. We all "know" each other really well.

There's something SO awesome about recognizing your friends IN REAL LIFE and you just pick up from where you left off, online.

SOOOOOO FUN!!!

Christine said...

It will be a great time! Can't wait! I'm mostly nervous about not measuring up to all the great bloggers out there, but I can't wait to soak it all up & learn :-)

Nenette AM said...

I'd totally go with the wavy hair. You look FOX-AY with the waves, girlfriend! :)

Alas, I won't be going to BlogHer this year, but really, I'd be most worried that I won't be able to meet the bloggers I've always wanted to meet. There will be SO many people there!

Nap Warden said...

The only thing that stresses me is what the heck to pack....and girl, your hair rocks no matter how you play it;)

Ironic Mom said...

I'm only going to BlogHer if I win a contest, but one can always hope. If I were going, I'd worry that my shoes wouldn't match...because that sums up my fashion sense.

By the way, something tells me that you could shave off all your hair and still look beautiful.

Brittany said...

First of all, your hair is gorgeous either way.

Secondly, you are going to have such a blast, I promise!

Crystal D said...

Oh no... I am not getting stressed yet. If I start now I'll never make it there.
Plus, I can't start worrying about clothes yet... I have 15 lbs to lose.
I can't start worrying about shoes yet... I am still wearing winter boots.
I can't start worrying about my hair... I am still rocking the low-lights and I can't get highlights until summer.
I can't start worrying about leaving my kids... I have NEVER left them for more than 24 hours.
I can't start worrying about BlogHer yet because I JUST CAN'T WAIT!!! (I am a newbie.)

MamaJoss said...

Awww I'm just so jealous...my babies turn 2 and 3 that weekend and I obviously won't miss THAT, so I'm counting on you for many photos and updates...crap...see now I got you all stressed again!! Srsly jealous.

Smart A$$ Mom said...

Well, unless you ditch some of the panels you will not have time to shop. I will be there and I will be ready to shop!! As for your hair, you're smashing either way!!!

Shannon @ AnchorMommy said...

I vote for wavy hair!

You're going to have so much fun!!! Someday I'll make it to BlogHer...someday... But with my baby due in late July, there's just no way I can swing it this year. Maybe next? I hope. So I have to live vicariously through you!

melissa said...

this will be my 2nd time. i think i know what to expect now. and i rely on my instincts regarding people because i'm usually right.
it's going to be awesome and overwhelming!! i'm probably going to come with straight hair and then it'll end up curly. i'll have my super awesome straightening iron if you need it!!

JackiYo said...

I so hope I win the MabelBlogHer contest so I can stress about BlogHer, too! :)

I like the wavy pic, but you look totally hot either way.

Alyssa said...

You have a problem with sock reviews? Geez, they're really nice socks. Really really nice socks. And because of all those socks I receive I never have to worry about buying shoes.

Laurie said...

Your hair is gorgeous either way so I vote just pick the easiest one (if either is easier, lol)

As for the rest, um yeah. Last year I stressed a lot and it actually wasn't quite what I hoped. So this year I'm taking a laid back and enjoy it as it comes approach. Hope it works better!

Krystyn said...

How about straight one day and wavy the next? Just an idea. But seriously, your hair is awesome, either way.

I hope none of the personalities let you down.

Just don't drink and tweet!

And, have a great time.

Jessica said...

I say switch it up on the hair front! Both ways look fantastic. You can't go wrong, period.

I'm SO EXCITED about BlogHer. I'm not nervous, but I'm afraid I'll be overwhelmed.

Can't wait to meet you!

Jessica said...

Honestly, I'm totally NOT stressed. First of all, I've got roommates I like. Second of all, I'm there to learn and meet new people. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn't, but I'm strangely very Zen about the whole thing. And lastly, there's always red wine to make it allll better!
