Boobyball Presents Planet Booby In Ottawa

I'm so happy to have been invited to attend this year's Boobyball— Planet Booby—taking place on Friday, November 13th. It's going to be an intergalactic night of fun, all for a very worthwhile cause. But the question is: what does one wear to an out-of-this-world gala?

I spoke with Alexandra Gunn,  Fashion Editor for Ottawa Life Magazine and member of the Social Media Committee for Ottawa's Boobyball, about this incredible event that'll be in Ottawa for the very first time.

Tell me about Boobyball, Rethink Breast Cancer, and this year's Planet Booby that is taking place in Ottawa.

If your readers have never heard of Boobyball, be prepared to be impressed by the 'out of this world' fundraiser that is coming to Ottawa for the first time! Boobyball is one of the most coveted and high profile fundraising events for young philanthropists in Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg, and now, Ottawa. Boobyball has always been about being bold, upbeat, and creative, quite like the campaign Rethink Breast Cancer and this year's fundraiser is space themed—we're calling it Planet Booby!

You can expect to be transported to another dimension at the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne where aliens and space cadets will be mingling at the open bar all while storm troopers and droids will be joining forces on the dance floor.

What's so fun about this event is that people really go the extra mile when getting dressed up. In the different cities where we've held the event, guests have shown up in full costume, wore body paint, or came with a group of friends wearing matching alien masks. The possibilities of what you will see on Friday, November 13th, are endless. Just remember, it's all about getting dressed up and having a lot of fun for a great cause.

How can people get tickets to Planet Booby?

Go to boobyball.com, and select your destination for Ottawa. Tickets are $100 which includes a $10 tax receipt and a major gift bag valued at over $250 from some amazing local sponsors. There will also be a raffle with prizes that you won't want to miss out on.

Boobyball is Rethink Breast Cancer's signature gala. How do funds raised at this gala help support women battling breast cancer?

That's a great question, because it's going to be a great party but it's more about helping the thousands of young women that are affected by breast cancer. Rethink Breast Cancer has been providing resources and networks for women to remind them that breast cancer in your 20's, 30's, and 40's doesn't have to be isolating. The funds raised from Boobyball go to cutting-edge education, awareness, a variety of programs and to a network of support. Rethink Breast Cancer offers some great resources, for example, to young families with up-to-date resources to help develop coping skills for the whole family.

We've really come a long way in helping to empower young people worldwide who are concerned about and affected by breast cancer. Rethink Breast Cancer has produced a mobile app to remind you to check your breasts, a video series to offer practical tips and even an inspirational lifestyle magazine called the 'Cancer Fabulous Diaries.'

You might be surprised to hear this, but 78% of the guests who attend Boobyball are affected by breast cancer—whether that's being directly affected or by knowing a friend or family member who has been struggling with breast cancer. Its' a number that really stands out for me.

How much money has Boobyball raised over the years?

Over the past 13 years, Boobyball has raised over 3.4 million dollars for Rethink Breast Cancer. In 2014, Boobyball raised over $432,000 and this year's we're setting the bar even higher. Rethink, along with our incredible committees, aims to raise over $500,000 to support Rethink's unique mission. I really hope we can achieve that goal! As you can imagine, this revenue is invaluable in the fight against breast cancer. Money raised through Boobyball will help expand the vital programs for young women with breast cancer and help to develop and fund desperately needed new programs as well.

If you don't have your ticket for Boobyball yet, what are you waiting for? You'll also get to have you touched up by Rinaldo's, enjoy a mini mani by The Ten Spot, have fun in the Planetary Photo Booth, and enjoy yummy food and drinks, all while mingling with friends. The event is already 75% sold out, so don't delay—grab your friends, and get your tickets so you don't miss out on what is sure to be a memorable and fun night that gives back in a great way.
